Banana paper is made from the agricultural byproducts of banana plants, a completely tree-free alternative to wood-pulp paper. It comes in both handmade sheets with artisanal character and machine-made sheets with consistent, reliable finishes.

Is banana paper made from the fruit?

No. It uses fibre from the banana pseudostem, the stalk left as waste after the fruit is harvested.

Does it reduce farm waste?

Yes. About 3 tonnes of pseudostem are discarded per tonne of fruit, which papermaking diverts.

Is banana fibre strong enough?

Yes. It is a lignocellulosic fibre around 30% cellulose, valued for paper, rope and composites.
